About the Scottish Common Party

Common sense. Common decency. Common good.

Who we are

The Scottish Common Party (SCP) is a people-first movement. We fix everyday problems with practical plans, open reporting and respect for everyone. Our focus is simple: lower bills, faster care, affordable homes, safer streets and real chances to work and learn—where you live.

WHAT WE STAND FOR

  • Housing as a right - Homes people can afford, not assets to speculate on.

  • Public services protected - NHS, education and care funded and fair.

  • Local power - Decisions made closer to the people they affect.

  • Honesty over spin - Leadership that listens, reports progress, and owns mistakes.

  • Fair work & opportunity - Back small businesses and apprenticeships; protect workers’ rights and pay a fair day’s wage.

  • Respect & common decency - Politics that treats everyone with dignity, disagrees well, and focuses on practical solutions.

OUR PRIORITIES (Manifesto)

We’ve organised our work into six clear chapters.

Explore the full plan below:

Tackling Poverty

Income security, stronger child support and local help that’s easy to access.

Accessible Healthcare

Quicker care, same-day urgent access and mental health support day and night.

Affordable Housing

Build more social homes, fair rents and warmer, cheaper-to-heat homes.

Welfare of Our Elders and Youth

Secure incomes, cheaper heating, free travel and friendly community hubs.

Early Years Intervention

50 hours childcare, free school meals for all and more support for families.

Energy & Environmental Justice

Fair energy bills, green jobs, community energy and nature restored.

LEADERSHIP

Kamran Butt — Chair

Kamran came to Scotland in 2010 to play cricket and found a city that became home. He worked in care and as a tradesman, seeing daily the pressures families face. He stood for public office and led grassroots campaigns. At SCP he focuses on housing, community safety, youth opportunity and fair work—guided by teamwork, integrity and action.

Claire Gallagher — Vice Chair

Born and raised in Clydebank, Claire spent 27 years in social care across homelessness, addiction and mental health. After serious illness in 2023, she speaks up for families under pressure and people living with disability. She champions tackling poverty, affordable housing, fair healthcare and dignity for older people—always putting people first.
